Ford Motor Co.'s automotive operations turned a bigger profit than its financial business for the first time since the first quarter of 2000.
Ford's global automotive sector reported a pretax profit of $1.82 billion compared with $1.08 billion for its financial services sector in the first quarter of 2004,
"All of our automotive operations worldwide made a profit in the first quarter,'' CEO Bill Ford said. "Our plan is working, and we are gaining momentum.''
But the turnaround of Ford's automotive business is far from complete.
For instance, the Premier Automotive Group produced a pretax profit of $20 million …
