Fed: Rudd says Australians hearing more about terror from India

The Labor Party says Australians are hearing more from the Indian government on possible
national security threats to Australia than from their own.

Opposition Foreign Affairs spokesman KEVIN RUDD says most Australians accepted that
there is a difficult balancing act between preserving national security and their right
to know.

But, he says, it becomes increasingly puzzling when the Australian community hears more
about possible threats to Australian security from the government of India than from the
government of Australia.

MOHAMMED AFROZ, an Indian Muslim who has been in custody in India since October 2,
reportedly confessed to being a member of a cell linked to OSAMA BIN LADEN'S Al Qaida
group.

Reports say the terrorist network planned to hijack aircraft and crash them into prominent
buildings including Melbourne's Rialto Towers.
