Fed: Clark denies $6,000 shout after cricket match
ATSIC chairman GEOFF CLARK has defended his right to give free beer to cricket matchspectators, saying a prime minister would get away with it.
Mr CLARK has been accused in the media of putting $6,000 of taxpayers' money over thebar at the Adelaide Oval after the Prime Minister's XI vs ATSIC Chairman's XI cricketmatch on March 21.
Indigenous Affairs Minister PHILIP RUDDOCK says he'll investigate the allegations ofthe $6,000 shout.
But Mr CLARK says the small number of spectators who had taken up his invitation tojoin the post-match celebrations had made no difference to the $4,100 pre-booked costto ATSIC of the function.
And he says that if the prime minister were to shout a few drinks for the public, itwould never be reported in the same prominent and prejudicial terms.
